Orbeliantubani in Tbilisi

Orbeliantubani in Tbilisi:
Georgian royals and nobility have always owned spacious residential buildings in Tbilisi and its surroundings. Indeed, the historical names given to some of them survive to this day. The Orbeliani district (Orbeliantubani) is one such place, where Orbeliani Palace and Church once stood tall. Orbeliantubani lies between April 9 and Giorgi Leonidze Gardens, towards the Mtkvari River, stretching from Atoneli Street to Mtkvari Street. The Orbeliani were well-known and famous representatives of feudal aristocratic lineage. After, King Teimuraz II gave royal estates to Commander Revaz Orbeliani for his loyalty and dedication to the royal court in 1751, this place was renamed Orbeliantubani.

Abanotubani in Tbilisi

Abanotubani in Tbilisi:
Tbilisi's historic districts on both banks of the Mtkvari river have survived many wars and raids. One of the oldest among those districts is Abanotubani, mentioned in the legend of the founding of Tbilisi by King Vakhtang Gorgasali (Vakhtang I of Iberia) in the 5th century. The existence of the previous city is confirmed by the 4th-century map created by the Roman geographer Castorius, where Tbilisi is called "Philado". Tbilisi, a fortress city, is also mentioned in the 360s chronicle "Moktsevai Kartlisai" which tells the story of how Georgians converted to Christianity.
